چکیده

This study aims to evaluate micropollutant occurrence and removal in a low-middle income country (LMIC) by investigating the of 28 chemicals from different classes (triclosan, 15 polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons (PAHs), 4 estrogens 8 polybrominated diphenyl ether (PBDE) congeners) three technologically diverse full-scale Brazilian wastewater treatment plants (WWTPs). These were detected at concentrations similar those reported other countries (LMICs) high-income (HICs) (0.1–49 μg/L) indicating their widespread use globally need for more studies LMICs that are typically characterized relatively inadequate barriers. Among WWTPs investigated these chemicals, least energy intensive system, waste stabilization ponds (WSPs), was most effective (95–99%) compared activated sludge (79–94%), Up-flow blanket reactor (UASB) with trickling filters system (89–95%). results highlight potential WSPs removal-especially warm climates. However, effluent all WWTP could pose risk aquatic organisms when discharged into receiving waters as triclosan, some estrogens, PAHs BDE 209 above European environmental quality standards (EQS) or predicted no effect concentration (PNEC values), water bodies benefit further treatment. In combination, help understand prevailing micropollutants fate current systems.

Characteristic occurrence patterns of micropollutants and their removal efficiencies in industrial wastewater treatment plants.

The concentrations and removal efficiencies of various kinds of micropollutants were investigated and the relationships between the input sources of industrial wastewater and occurrence patterns of each micropollutant were identified at nine on-site industrial wastewater treatment plants (WWTPs). The distribution pattern of each compound varied according to the WWTP type and several micropollut...

Occurrence and Removal of Macrolides in Municipal Wastewater Treatment Plants: A Review

Introduction: Macrolides are a group of antibacterial agents. Given their clinical importance, and the consistent rise in resistance among pathogenic bacteria, macrolides have been the targets of extensive research. Materials and Methods: This review considered the number of macrolides in different wastewater and the removal of these drugs. The antibiotics were frequently detected in influents...

Involvement of Rhodocyclus-related organisms in phosphorus removal in full-scale wastewater treatment plants.

The participation of organisms related to Rhodocyclus in full-scale enhanced biological phosphorus removal (EBPR) was investigated. By using fluorescent in situ hybridization techniques, the communities of Rhodocyclus-related organisms in two full-scale wastewater treatment plants were estimated to represent between 13 and 18% of the total bacterial population. However, the fractions of these c...

Removal of micropollutants, facultative pathogenic and antibiotic resistant bacteria in a full-scale retention soil filter receiving combined sewer overflow.

Combined sewer systems collect surface runoff as well as wastewater of industrial and domestic origin. During periods of heavy rainfall the capacity of the sewer system is exceeded and the overflow is discharged into receiving waters without any treatment. Consequently, combined sewer overflow (CSO) is considered as a major source of water pollution. This study investigates the effectiveness of...
